Homework - WWII
Watch these videos to gain some understanding over the Dutch experience during the Nazi occupation. The videos are long and heavy, but this short moment in time was a hard lesson for the Dutch and had a profound impact on the country's social development through the rest of the 20th century.
In the days between the Nazi surrender and when the allies arrived in Amsterdam a few drunk Nazi soldiers (waiting to be shipped home) opened fire on a crowded celebration on Dam square. Possibly the most tragic additions to the immense body count of a long, prolonged war already so full of unnecessary casualties. Obviously the sound in the video is added for dramatic purposes, but the effect seems in poor taste.
